My Honors project explores how linguistics, specifically language used in the marketing and reviewing of sustainable products, initiatives, and actions can impact the way individuals perceive and adopt sustainable practices. I hope to evaluate the reactions of consumers to particular sustainability campaigns and organizations, as well as how different corporations implement a sense of community that centers around normalizing environmental consciousness and ethical consumption. My research project, mentored by Dr. Drew Holladay, will also observe the extent to which community dialogue in online media spaces impacts the behavior of the sustainability agenda.
