Under the guidance of Professor Michele Osherow and Professor Tanya Olson, my project will explore Shakespeare’s way of playing with gender and gender roles throughout his works. This project will analyze the characters’ relationship with gender in both 12th Night and As You Like It, looking into the definition of gender roles as shown by the women protagonists who modeled themselves after the men they’re surrounded by. Accompanying a research paper, this project will also have a creative portion exploring women characters’ feelings while dressing and behaving as men.
