I am focusing my research on a selection of works written by Louisa May Alcott, with a particular interest in her novel Little Women. Under the guidance of Dr. Lindsay DiCuirci, I will be examining how Alcott used her works to put forth the idea that the freedom and queerness that a girl is able to experience in childhood should and can be applied to her womanhood. I will also be looking to her personal writings, as well as some biographical materials to gain a better understanding of how Alcott felt about the aging experience of a woman to determine how these thoughts might fit into the theme of female utopia that we see depicted within Alcott’s narratives.
