Working with Professors Lia Purpura and Emily Yoon Perez, I am creating a collection of poetry that reflects on the state of the Asian American community in the present-day, specifically reflecting on current events like COVID-19 and engaging with contemporary Asian American poets and writers. In my writing, I plan to dismantle common Asian American issues such as anti-blackness, racism, homophobia, violence, hypersexualization, and the model minority conundrum, and study how white supremacy and patriarchy has reinforced these issues.HARLEY NGUYEN
